Biography
Dr Hui Zhang (Shirley) received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronic Information Science and Technology from Zhengzhou University in 2012 ,and obtained her postgraduate qualifications in Master of Biomedical Engineering from Peking University in 2015 and a PhD in neuroscience from Hong Kong University in 2019. She underwent postdoctoral fellowship at the HKU Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine from 2019 to 2022.
Research by Dr Zhang focused on brain changes in different diseases or during the rehabilitation process using different MRI techniques. Her research includes evaluating the effects on the brain after intranasal insulin administration in Type-2 diabetic patients, small world networks and their relationship with hippocampal Glutamate concentration in healthy adults with the high-risk APOE4 gene, and brain changes in long COVID patients with olfactory dysfunction.
Dr Zhang currently intends to combine multi-modal MRI techniques, such as diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), functional MRI (fMRI) and Positron emission tomography (PET), with artificial intelligence and big data analysis, or other advanced algorithmic techniques to provide insights into the potentially accurate diagnosis and therapy development.
