The demand for occupational therapists is increasing in the hope of providing a better health care system for the public. PolyU offers professional training in occupational therapy. In my first year, I gained knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, OT theory and processes, psychology and research methods. I acquired fundamental knowledge of OT, especially how to develop a therapeutic relationship with patients. In the functional anatomy lessons, I learned how to palpate important bony landmarks, which is fundamental for treatment.

The programme also offers many opportunities, including exchange trips and hospital visits, which helped me to familiarise myself with real clinical settings and occupational therapy programmes in other countries. I observed an occupational therapist's case with the family of a patient, a 5-year-old girl with autism. This gave me a better understanding of the OT process.

在理工大學就讀職業治療的這一年時間，我不但學到復康科學中的基礎知識，更對職業治療這一專業有了更深理解。我明白到身為一名稱職的治療師，不但需要掌握職業治療中的專業知識和技巧，更要理解、承擔作為醫護應有的道義和責任，而在理工大學的課程中，這些學習的面向亦有好好地涵蓋。在這首年的課程中，學生能夠從中掌握職業治療師的手法、理論以及目標，而為未來在協助病人復康回歸生活上打好重要基礎。我衷心慶幸自己選擇職業治療這一學科，因為這學科不單單包括專業的理論和知識，更令學生有更廣闊的視野，貢獻社會，充實自己和他人的人生。
