Survival Spanish for the Chinese Visitor

By the end of the course students will be able to:

  • Have very basic conversations with native speakers about familiar topics
  • Use elementary vocabulary related to the course topics (e.g. personal information, shopping, travelling)
  • Understand written information and produce simple texts about food and travel (e.g. buying tickets online, booking a hotel room, filling in a form with personal information)
  • Communicate about simple tasks (ordering food and drinks in a restaurant, shopping, and asking about transportation and accommodation)

Spanish basics I: Greetings, alphabet, giving basic personal information.

Culture: Spanish in the world.

2

Spanish basics II: Nationalities (masculine and feminine), introducing yourself, asking for personal information, numbers 0-20.

Culture: Spanish-speaking countries

Spanish basics III: Occupations, introducing others (he / she), indefinite articles (a / an).

Culture: Famous Spanish-speaking people

In the city: Asking for information in the city (address and phone numbers), numbers 20-100, definite article (the).

Culture: Music in the Hispanic world

In the neighborhood: Describing a city, places in the neighborhood, means of transport, forming plural

Culture: Spanish cities

In the restaurant: Food and drinks, ordering in a cafe/bar, verbs (traer and poner).

Culture: Spanish tapas and cuisine

Shopping: Clothes and accessories, asking for prices, buying in shops, demonstrative adjectives (this / these /that / those).

Culture: Spanish Fashion

8

First week in Spain: Checking in at the hotel, meeting new people (review of giving and asking for personal information).

Culture: Spanish regions and major touristic areas
