Abstract
The last two decades have seen escalating pressure on academics everywhere, especially junior ones, to publish a lot and in high-impact journals. In this talk, I share, from an insider perspective, what I know about common editorial processes involved in publishing in refereed journals. with a view to helping junior academics become familiar with these processes. Drawing on my experience as an author, a reviewer for many academic journals, and co-editor of Journal of English for Academic Purposes, I share practices and strategies that have worked for me in my efforts to publish. Some of the topics to be covered include finding the right journal, finding a niche, qualities that editors and reviewers look for in a paper, pitfalls to avoid, and responding to editors and reviewers.
