Effective Assessment of Reading Skills. Featured speech in Public Lecture of Chinese Language Education Professional Committee, China Higher Education Association. Chinese Language Education Professional Committee of the China Higher Education Association (online), 23 September 2023.

Abstract
Two topics were presented. The first topic is online reading tests, specifically (1) comparison of paper-based reading and online reading, (2) the characteristics of online reading in international reading tests, (3) strategic skills in online reading, (4) essentials of constructing items for online reading assessment. The second topic is the Six Types of Reading Comprehension Skills (the Six Types) developed by the speaker of this speech and its applications in Chinese language curriculum, teaching and assessment, which includes discussions about (1) why should reading assessment highlight skills in the current context of Chinese language education, (2) differences between the skills in the Six Types, (3) what skills should be evaluated aligned with the framework of the Six Types, (4) what types of items can evaluate these skills, (5) implementation of the Six Types.
