Assessment of Chinese Integrated Writing and Student Performance: 20 Years of Research Exploration. 7th International Conference on Language Testing and Assessment. CACSEC Association for Language Testing and Assessment (CALTA), Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, 10-12 November 2023.

Abstract
Integrated writing (IW) requires students to understand, select, and integrate appropriate information into written texts. This is a crucial academic skill for students during their school studies and future work. From an assessment perspective, IW possesses the characteristics of theoretical validity, practical authenticity, and fairness in testing. This keynote speech summarized the direction and key findings of our 20-year research on the assessment of Chinese IW. Topics included the construct of L1 Chinese IW skills, assessment material selection, the relationship between L1 Chinese and L2 English IW performance, students' self-assessment and peer assessment in IW (formative assessment), psychological and behavioural factors influencing IW performance, the application of research results in examinations, school-based assessment, and teaching (knowledge transfer). Finally, future research topics in Chinese IW were proposed.
