In 2018, I took a gap year to participate in a working holiday scheme in Sweden, which ushered the first turning point in my life. During the Scandinavia journey, I was working for a start-up company as a short-term worker. This opportunity provided me with practical experience to work closely in the Nordic culture. People there focus not only on the design output but also on the reason, process and all-around touchpoints with stakeholders. The Nordic design walked through the design thinking process and co-design with the audience. I also connected and learnt from overseas design experts.
A well-designed product should collaborate with different parties and understand the needs of customers. Therefore, I decided to turn to UX and focus on it for my design journey. I understood that I should enhance my skill set to develop design as a process. The Design Strategies (MDes) programme provides a great atmosphere and education to designers working full-time who want to deepen their understanding of design. This learning opportunity equips students with soft skills in project management, leadership and seeing design in the future context. I believe the programme would allow me to explore human-centred methodologies and analyse different branding strategies in order to help the company grow its business in Hong Kong and connect to the world.
I foresee that the Design Strategies (MDes) programme will equip graduates to develop design as a strategic tool to strengthen the company's value when integrating design, business and technology. I am looking forward to having more turning points and opportunities after graduation.
