Professor Cathy Hsu and Dr Qu Xiao attended the 2014 Annual ICHRIE Summer Conference and Marketplace in San Diego, USA from 30 July to 1 August. Professor Hsu presented a paper entitled "Local Residents' Attitudes toward the World Expo 2010 Shanghai: A Mixed-Method Investigation on Different Age Cohort". Dr Xiao presented a paper entitled "Corporate Social Responsibility as a Risk Management Strategy in the Restaurant Industry".

Professor Kaye Chon led a residential workshop for the course "Asian Paradigm in Hospitality Management" of the Doctor of Hotel and Tourism Management programme. The workshop was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 13-17 August 2014 and attended by 14 D.HTM students.

Professor Chon, Dr Qu Xiao and Dr Basak Denizci Guillet attended Hong Kong PolyU SHTM Day@Asia Hotel Forum on 2 September, part of the 7th Asia Hotel Forum International Hotel Investment Summit in Beijing, China on 2-4 September 2014. Professor Chon spoke on the "Issues and Prospects for China's Hotel Industry" on the Keynote Panel entitled "Senior Executive Visions".

Dr George Liu and Dr Denis Tolkach attended the 32nd EuroCHRIE Conference in Dubai, UAE on 6-9 October 2014. Dr Liu presented a paper entitled "Entrepreneurs' Academic Ties: An Explorative Study of Seven Economy Hotel Chain Founders in China". Dr Tolkach presented a paper entitled "Tourists' Perspectives on Communist Heritage as Tourism Attractions".
