Miss Tan Lok-yiu, Violet and Miss Wong Shuk-ping, Pinky, students in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, received Manuel Woo Awards for Excellence 2015 at a presentation ceremony on 4 June, recognising their academic achievement and eagerness to pursue careers in the hospitality industry after graduation.

Ms Evelyn Ye, MSc student in the International Tourism and Convention Management programme, received a Boeing Master Student Research Merit Award for her Master's thesis on "The Exploration of Tourists' Decision Making on the Move" at the 46th Travel and Tourism Research Association International Conference in Portland, USA on 15-17 June 2015.

Ms Bona Kim, Ph.D. student, received the "Young Scientist Award" based on her paper "Understanding of Pilgrims' Values Using the Hard Laddering Method: A Case Study of Camino de Santiago in Spain" at the 5th International Conference on Tourism in London, UK on 24-27 June 2015.

Professor Bob McKercher received the 2015 CPTHL Distinguished Award at the 9th Consumer Psychology of Tourism, Hospitality, and Leisure Research Symposium in Namur, Belgium on 1-4 July 2015.

Research proposals submitted by SHTM faculty members were recently awarded funding from the Research Grants Council's General Research Fund (GRF). The successful applicants were Professor Haiyan Song, Dr Basak Denizci Guillet and Dr Sam Kim. Dr Dan Wang was successful with an Early Career Scheme (ECS) application.

Professor Cathy Hsu was recently honoured by the Emerald Publishing Group, with her co-authored paper entitled "Projected Images of Major Chinese Outbound Destinations", published in the Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research during 2012, receiving an "Emerald Citations of Excellence for 2015" award.
