ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
Dr Ksenia Kirillova and Dr Han Wen received Best Conference Paper Awards at the 21st Annual Graduate Education & Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality and Tourism, Philadelphia, USA on 7-9 January 2016. Dr Kirillova's co-authored paper was entitled "Reconciling Unsatisfying Tourism Experiences: Message Type Effectiveness and the Role of Counterfactual Thinking". Dr Wen's co-authored paper featured the topic, "Investigating Dining Experiences at Chinese Restaurants Using User-Generated Content and Topic Modeling".
Six SHTM faculty and staff members included SHTM Dean, Professor Kaye Chon, Professor Rob Law, Dr Andrew Chan, Dr Eric Chan, Mr Murphy Tang and Mr Ricky Leung were honoured with Long Service Awards on 22 January 2016 by PolyU in appreciation of their loyal and dedicated service to the institution over the years.
Professor Rob Law won third place in the Journal Paper of the Year Award for his co-authored paper entitled "Exploring the Travel Behaviors of Inbound Tourists to Hong Kong using Geotagged Photos" at the 23rd Annual ENTER Conference in Bilbao, Spain on 2-5 February 2016.
Ms Hera Oktadiana, a research student in the Doctor of Philosophy in Hotel and Tourism Management programme, received the Best Paper Award for her co-authored paper entitled "How Do I Look? An Ethological Study of Posing for the Tourist Photographs" at the 26th Annual CAUTHE Conference in Sydney, Australia on 8-11 February 2016.
Dr Stephen Pratt and team members received Multi-departmental Participation Award for their consultancy project "Provision of a Consultancy Study on the Economic Benefits of Infrastructure Investment in Hong Kong" at the PolyU Technology and Consultancy Company Limited (PTeC) Outstanding Professional Services Awards Presentation Ceremony 2015 on 2 March 2016. The award paid due recognition to the team's valuable contribution to consultancy work.
