If you want to learn about the hospitality and tourism industry in China and understand the impact of China's tourism on the rest of the world, you now have a way. Join the first MOOC (massive open online course) run by the SHTM this November through edX, the non-profit online learning platform founded by Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
China is one of the world's most populous countries and one of the largest markets, with an increasingly powerful economy. The country is transforming itself through economic development within which travel and tourism play important roles. As tourism is a vital part of today's global economy, it is important to understand how China influences the world with its outbound travel, trade, politics and culture. This free online course is a must for anyone who deals with guests from China or aims at China's tourism market.
The course will help participants to understand aspects of this important sector in China, ranging from its significance on a global scale to its local impacts. It will explore the present and future development of the sector and introduce participants to the travel trends within and outside the country from a global perspective. The market development and travel behaviour of Chinese tourists will also be examined.
