This year's
QS World University Rankings by Subject include for the first time a ranking of the world's top 50 universities in the "Hospitality and Leisure Management" category. The rankings are based on three main criteria - academic reputation, employer reputation and research. The SHTM is honoured to be
ranked among the top 3 institutions in the world according to the rankings released on 8 March.
The only Asian-based institution in the top 3, the SHTM has the highest score in research among the 3. Indeed, quality research output has long been recognised as one of the School's significant strengths. In its pursuit of excellence, the SHTM places great importance on ground-breaking research and encourages a robust research culture amongst its international academic
staff. That continued effort has proven to be fundamental to the School's rise to a leading role in hospitality and tourism education and is central to its significant contributions to practice within the industry.
As a young school founded 38 years ago in 1979, the SHTM is very proud to have been recognised and rated highly and consistently by various international organisations and authorities over the years, including the International Society of Travel and Tourism Educators,
International Academy for the Study of Tourism, United Nations World Tourism Organization, Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, University Ranking by Academic Performance Research Laboratory and QS.
However, the School will not rest on its laurels. It constantly references various performance indicators as it seeks to scale new heights and live up to its motto of "Leading Hospitality and Tourism". Academic research is without a doubt one of the cornerstones of higher education,
and the SHTM's research output clearly demonstrates its strength as a leading hotel and tourism school. With its international faculty and diverse international student body, the School is well poised to achieve global excellence in hospitality and tourism education and to lead its development in the years to come.
