SHTM Ranked Top 3 in the World
This year's QS World University Rankings by Subject include for the first time a ranking of the world's top 50 universities in the "Hospitality and Leisure Management" category. The rankings are based on three main criteria - academic reputation, employer reputation and research. The SHTM is honoured to be ranked among the top 3 institutions in the world according to the rankings released on 8 March.

The only Asian-based institution in the top 3, the SHTM has the highest score in research among the 3. Indeed, quality research output has long been recognised as one of the School's significant strengths. In its pursuit of excellence, the SHTM places great importance on ground-breaking research and encourages a robust research culture amongst its international academic staff. Read more
Exciting Line-up for 3rd Global Tourism and Hospitality Conference

Hosted and organised by the SHTM, the 3rd Global Tourism and Hospitality Conference (HONG KONG 2017) will bring academics, researchers, thought leaders, industry practitioners and students together to hold discussions and exchange insights into the world's hospitality and tourism industry. Taking the theme Innovation · Education · Research, HONG KONG 2017 will take place at Hotel ICON on 5-7 June. Read more
SHTM MicroMasters Programme Bridging Education Gap

In a fresh approach to bridging the knowledge gap between higher education and the workplace, the School teamed up with edX, the non-profit online learning platform founded by Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, to launch the first-ever MicroMasters in International Hospitality Management programme in January 2017. Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) Workshop to Train Hospitality Educators

On behalf of the SHTM and the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute, Dr Fred Mayo will deliver a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) Workshop on the School premises from 8 to 11 June 2017. Read more
Career Day Opens Up Opportunities


On 10 March, the School hosted its Career Day for 2017, providing opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students to gather information about potential employers in the hospitality and tourism industry. This year, fifty-four companies, including local organisations and international chains in hospitality, catering and tourism, set up exhibition booths. Read more
ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION

Ms Kristina Braun, a final year student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, received the Outstanding Student Award of School and The Most Outstanding PolyU Student Award 2016 at PolyU's Outstanding Student Awards presentation ceremony on 21 February 2017. Read more
PARTNERSHIPS


The SHTM has entered into a strategic partnership with the HNA Hospitality Group (HNA) to collaborate in the areas of internship, scholarship, executive education and industry attachment in support of talent training and development. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Professor Kaye Chon and Mr Carlo Schmed, HNA Vice President of Operations, at the SHTM on 17 February. Read more
