CONFERENCES/SEMINARS/WORKSHOPS

Mr Joey Wu presented a paper entitled "Framework for Online Communities of Practice for Engaging Hotel and Tourism Educators" at the 2017 International Conference on Technology in Education in New York, USA on 30 July - 3 August.

Dr Soyon Paek presented a co-authored paper entitled "Do Institutional Investors Act as Good Monitors for Corporate Firm Performance? Evidence from Hotel Corporations" at the 8th International Research Symposium in Service Management in Seoul, South Korea on 1-5 August 2017.

Professor Kaye Chon led a residential workshop for the course "Asian Paradigm in Hospitality Management" of the Doctor of Hotel and Tourism Management programme. The workshop was held in Bangkok, Thailand on 9-13 August 2017 and attended by 19 D.HTM students.

Dr Pearl Lin presented co-authored papers entitled "Spend Less and Experience More: Understanding the Social Contact in Airbnb Context" and "What's the Next for Airbnb in China, from Hotel Managers' Perspectives?" at the Visitor Economy Conference in Bournemouth, UK on 4-6 September 2017.

Professor Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song, Dr Qu Xiao and Dr Sangwon Park attended the UNWTO 22nd General Assembly in Chengdu, China on 11-16 September 2017. Professor Chon participated in the panel discussion with UNWTO Ulysses Prize Laureates on the topic "Innovation: Bridging Past and Future". Professor Song delivered the closing remarks at the conference. Dr Park participated in the panel session entitled "Smart Tools for Heritage Conservation and Sustainability".

Dr Alan Wong delivered a talk entitled "Service Learning: Ecotourism in Rural and Development Regions" at the Seminar and Competition of Best Practice of Hospitality and Tourism Courses in Xian, China on 21-22 September 2017.

Professor Kaye Chon delivered a lecture on the topic "What Makes Asian Hospitality Asian?" at the Kyoto University in Japan on 29 September 2017.

Professor Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song, Professor Cathy Hsu and Dr Honggen Xiao attended the 11th UNWTO/PATA Forum on Tourism Trends and Outlook in Guilin, China on 10-12 October 2017. Professor Chon delivered an opening remark. Professor Song moderated a keynote session on "Sustainable Tourism for Development" and presented a keynote entitled "Sustaining Tourism Growth through Knowledge Transfer". Professor Hsu presented a keynote on the topic "Tourism Education on and beyond the Horizon". Dr Xiao moderated a keynote session on "The Role of Academia in Driving Sustainability".

Professor Kaye Chon delivered a talk on the topic "Innovation and Leadership in Hospitality and Tourism" at the School of History and Culture, Northeast Normal University in Changchun, China on 14-17 October 2017.

Professor Chon delivered keynote speech entitled "Branding and Marketing for City Tourism" at the 8th TPO General Assembly in Tongyeong, Korea on 18-21 October 2017.
