The Hong Kong PolyU Winter School®, an Executive Development Programme in Hospitality, was held at the SHTM from 4 to 16 December. Co-organised by the SHTM, Hong Kong Hotels Association and PolyU's Institute for Entrepreneurship, and sponsored by the PATA Foundation and Hotel ICON, the programme attracted a host of senior industry executives.
Delivered as a series of six in-depth, interactive modules spanning two weeks, the Winter
School featured leading industry professionals and SHTM academics.
The first module, on luxury hospitality brand management, was delivered by Professor Denis Morisset, now with the ESSEC Business School and formerly COO of Ralph Lauren Europe and CEO of Pierre Balmain and Giorgio Armani. During the second module, Dr Sangwon Park, SHTM Associate Professor, and Dr Dan Wang, SHTM Assistant Professor, focused on digital marketing and analytics.
The first week ended with a module on
revenue management, presented by Dr Basak Denizci Guillet, SHTM Associate Professor and Mr Bobby SH Saw, Revenue Optimiser Specialist.
The second week kicked off with a module on strategic talent management covering the recruitment, selection, motivation and retention of employees for long-term success delivered by Dr Alice Hon, SHTM Associate Professor, and Dr Mary Jo Dolasinski, Assistant Professor at the School of Hospitality Leadership, DePaul University. The fifth module, led by Dr
Frederic Mayo, Principal of Mayo Consulting Services Inc. and Clinical Professor of Hospitality and Tourism Management, New York University covered effective training in hospitality.
The Winter School culminated in a module on managing organisational change and transformation led by Prof Brian King, SHTM Associate Dean, and Ms Judy Hou, Managing Director of the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management.
The next Hong Kong PolyU Winter School® is tentatively scheduled to be held
in December 2018.
