ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
Professor Brian King received the award for the Best Article of the Year 2017 for his co-authored paper entitled "Accommodating the Sharing Revolution: A Qualitative Evaluation of the Impact of Airbnb on Singapore's Budget Hotels" published in the Tourism Recreation Research.
Professor Rob Law won first place in the Journal Paper of the Year Award based on his co-authored paper entitled "Travel Diaries Analysis by Sequential Rule Mining" at the 25th Annual ENTER Conference in Jönköping, Sweden on 24-26 January 2018.
At the same conference, Dr Daniel Leung received the PhD Thesis Excellence Award for his paper entitled "Predicting Usefulness of Electronic Word-of-mouth in the Information-overload Age: A Mixed-method Study".
Dr Karin Weber was awarded a KTP Research Fellowship from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in Australia. The Fellowship facilitated research collaboration with Dr Deborah Edwards and Dr Carmel Foley of UTS on "Conferences: Catalysts for Thriving Economies" with a focus on conference legacies. As part of the fellowship, Dr Weber visited UTS in February, working with her collaborators on research grants and publications, offering seminars for Sydney's business events industry executives, and UTS staff and students, and visiting the International Conference Centre (ICC) Sydney. The "Value of Meetings Case Study Project" spearheaded by Dr Edwards and Dr Foley on behalf of the Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC), and supported by Dr Weber as a member of the international academic advisory board, was also advanced as part of the KTP Research Fellowship.
Miss Tsang Ka-po, Lilian, a final year student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, received the Outstanding Student Award, School of Hotel and Tourism Management 2017 at PolyU's Outstanding Student Awards Presentation Ceremony on 26 February 2018. The prestigious award was presented to Miss Tsang by Professor Timothy W. Tong, PolyU President. Outstanding Student Awards are granted annually to full-time final-year students who excel in both academic and non-academic pursuits during their studies. Awardees are presented with prizes and their names are inscribed on a plaque on the PolyU campus.
