Dr Alan Wong attended the Ethnic Village Tourism Academic Forum in Guilin, China on 14-17 May 2018.
Dr Stephen Pratt presented a paper entitled "Unlucky for Some? Are Some Hotel Rooms and Floors Really Unluckier Than Others?" at the 9th International Conference on Tourism & Sustainable Development in Kathmandu, Nepal on 16-18 May 2018.
A number of SHTM staff members and students, including Professor Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song, Professor Rob Law, Dr Sam Kim, Dr Jinsoo Lee, Dr Henry Tsai, Dr Qu Xiao, Dr Sunggyun Mun and Dr Stephen Pratt and Ph.D. students Ms Irene Chan, Ms Vicky Chen, Ms Lorraine Zhang and Mr Jerry Zheng attended the 16th Asia-Pacific CHRIE Conference in Guangzhou, China on 31 May to 2 June 2018.
  • Professor Chon presented a keynote speech entitled "Progress and Challenges in Hospitality and Tourism Education in Asia Pacific".
  • Professor Song delivered a workshop on "Grant Application and Proposal Writing" and chaired a "Hospitality Education Forum".
  • Professor Law gave a presentation on "Academic Writing and Publication" at the preconference workshop. Professor Law and Ms Chan presented a co-authored paper entitled "Beating the Odds in Crisis: A Resource-based Perspective". Professor Law and Mr Zheng presented a co-authored paper entitled "Moral Obligation or Moral Disengagement? A Study of Tourist Pro-environmental Behavior".
  • Dr Lee, Dr Tsai and Mr Zheng presented a co-authored paper entitled "The Impact of Directorate Interlock on a Firm's Performance: The Case of Hong Kong Public-listed Hospitality Firms".
  • Dr Xiao and Ms Zhang presented a co-authored paper entitled "How to Select an International Acquisition Target? A Study on Chinese Hospitality Companies".
  • Dr Mun presented a co-authored paper on the "Restaurant Financial Constraint Model: A Proposal for Restaurant Firms' Financial Constraint Measurement".
  • Dr Pratt presented a co-authored paper entitled "The Politics of Tourism Statistics".
  • Ms Chen presented a paper entitled "A Pilot Study on Tourist Pre- and Post-trip Perceptions on Destination Image of Macau".

Dr Wilco Chan attended the Roomvent & Ventilation 2018 Conferences in Helsinki, Finland on 2-5 June 2018.

Professor Kaye Chon, Professor Haiyan Song, Dr Zoe Xiao, Ms Alland Liu, Ph.D. student Ms Thanakarn Bella Vongvisitsin and D.HTM student Ms Hyunjung Choi attended the 13th Asia Tourism Forum in Angers, France on 7-9 June 2018.
  • Professor Chon delivered an opening speech and gave a keynote speech on the topic "Asian Paradigm in Hospitality: Implications for Education and Industry".
  • Professor Song gave a keynote speech on "Forecast for Tourism Asia Pacific".
  • Dr Xiao and Ms Liu presented a co-authored paper entitled "Institutional Factors Influencing the Transfer of MOOC Credit to Offline University: A Case study of HKPolyU's MicroMasters in International Hospitality Management".
  • Ms Vongvisitsin presented a co-authored paper entitled "Community-based Governance and Social Capitals Generated by Tourism: A Case Study of Thailand".
  • Ms Choi presented a paper entitled "Talent Management System (TMS) and the Organizational Behaviors of X Generational Employees in the Korean Hotel Industry".

Dr Sam Kim delivered a seminar on "Food Tourism" at Hungkuo Delin University of Technology in Taipei, Taiwan on 8 June 2018.
Dr Kim delivered a keynote speech on "Food Tourism Consumption Value" and conducted a seminar on "Enhancement of Research Competency" at the Department of Restaurant, Hotel and Institutional Management, Fu Jen Catholic University in Taipei, Taiwan on 9 June 2018.
Professor Haiyan Song and Ph.D. student Ms Lisa Yip attended the 12th Annual American Association of Wine Economists Conference in New York, USA on 10-14 June 2018. Professor Song and Ms Yip presented a co-authored paper entitled "The Millennial Chinese Preferences on Domestic against Imported Wines". Professor Song also presented another co-authored paper entitled "Terrorism Attacks and Inbound Tourist Flows to France: Is Wine Tourism a Substitute?"
Mr Raymond Kwong presented a co-authored paper entitled "Legal and Business Sustainability of Social Enterprises: A Comparative Case Study of Social-enterprise Restaurants in Hong Kong, Indonesia and Vietnam" and chaired a panel session on "Business and Economics Aspects of Culture and Tourism Destinations" at the 14th Annual International Conference on Tourism in Athens, Greece on 11-14 June 2018.
Dr Catherine Cheung participated in a parallel session on the topic "Tourism Education in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area" at the 2018 Greater Bay Area Higher Education Forum in Macau on 12 June.
Dr Lorenzo Masiero presented a co-authored paper entitled "A Comparison of Hedonic Pricing and Discrete Choice Techniques for Estimating Tourist Willingness to Pay" at the 6th Quantitative Approaches in Tourism Economics and Management Workshop in Punaauia, French Polynesia on 14-16 June 2018.
Professor Haiyan Song presented papers entitled "Forecasting Tourism Growth Turning Points" and "The Bayesian Approach to Combine Quantitative and Judgmental Tourism Demand Forecasts" at the International Symposium on Forecasting 2018 in Boulder, Colorado, USA on 17-20 June.
Dr Mehmet Koseoglu presented a co-authored paper entitled "Intellectual Structure of Strategic Management Research in the Hospitality Management Field" at the 8th Advances in Hospitality & Tourism Marketing and Management Conference in Bangkok, Thailand on 25-29 June 2018.
Dr Sam Kim delivered keynote speech entitled "Tourism Destination Competitiveness" at the 8th International Conferences on Tourism in Kavala, Greece on 27-30 June 2018.
Professor Kaye Chon, Dr Sangwon Park and Dr Sunggyun Mun attended the 24th Asia Pacific Tourism Association Annual Conference in Cebu, Philippines on 3-6 July 2018. Professor Chon participated in a graduate panel session on "Swimming with Sharks? Navigating Your Way through the Increasingly Treacherous Waters around Academe (Editors' Session)". Dr Park participated in a panel session on the topic "Tourism Certification System in Asia" and presented a paper entitled "Examining Multi-Dimensional Trust in Service Robots". Dr Mun presented a co-authored paper entitled "Profit-driven M&A and Growth-driven M&A: U.S. Restaurants Perspectives" and chaired a concurrent session on the topic "Hospitality-Food".
Professor Brian King, Dr Catherine Cheung, Dr Jinsoo Lee and Dr Eka Putra attended the 2018 Pan Asia International Tourism Conference in Seoul, Korea on 4-5 July. Professor King delivered a keynote on the topic "Towards Pan Asia Tourism: The Embrace of Integration by the Resorts Sector". Dr Cheung presented a co-authored paper entitled "Towards and Understanding of Cultural Intelligent Behavior of Hotel Service Employees". Dr Lee presented a co-authored paper entitled "Rethink the Components of Good Service in the Digital Era: Smart Service Quality in Hospitality and Tourism". Dr Putra presented a co-authored paper entitled "Generation Z's Perception of Management Trainee Program in the Hospitality Industry".
Professor Haiyan Song spoke on "Bagging in Tourism Demand Forecasting" at the 2018 International Symposium of Quantitative Economics in Changchun, China on 6-8 July.
Dr Alice Hon and Ms Clare Fung presented a co-authored paper entitled "The Impact of Proactive Personality on Knowledge Sharing Intention: The Mediating Effects of Motivation" at the 12th International Conference of Organizational Innovation in Fukuoka, Japan on 7-9 July 2018.
Dr Honggen Xiao presented a paper entitled "'Think Tank' as a Knowledge-based Strategy for Public Policy and Development: A Preliminary Case Study of the China Tourism Academy" at the XIX International Sociological Association World Congress of Sociology in Toronto, Canada on 15-21 July 2018.
Dr Denis Tolkach presented co-authored papers entitled "Changes in Tourism, Culture and Heritage in the South Pacific" and "Begpackers: Drifting on the Margins of Tourism" at the 18th World Congress of the IUAES in Florianopolis, Brazil on 16-20 July 2018.
Dr Linda Woo and Ms Tiffany Cheng attended the 2018 Annual ICHRIE Summer Conference and Marketplace in California, USA on 25-27 July. Dr Woo give a poster presentation on the "Management Practices in the Hotel Industry Across Countries". Ms Cheng give a poster presentation entitled "Studying the Impact of Quizzes on Hospitality and Tourism Students' Self-efficacy in Finance Subjects".
Dr Barry Mak, Dr Henry Tsai, Dr Sabrina Huang and Dr Alan Wong attended the 2018 Global Marketing Conference in Tokyo, Japan on 26-29 July. Dr Mak presented a co-authored paper entitled "Behavior on and Perception of Travel Websites of Mainland Chinese Tourists". Dr Tsai presented three papers, on "The Relationship between Perceived Service Quality, Satisfaction and Repurchase Intention in China's Bed and Breakfast Industry", "Intrinsic Motivators and Psychological Benefits of Customer Engagement in Tourism Social Media Sites" and "The Impact of Hotel Employees' Emotional Intelligence on Customer Complaint Handling". Dr Huang presented a paper entitled "Transnational Leisure Involvement and Travel Motivation of Contemporary Migrants".
