The global hospitality and tourism industry is facing considerable challenges due to geopolitical and socio-economic uncertainties and global health crises, such as the China-US trade war, Brexit, social unrest around the world and the COVID-19 pandemic. These challenges have damaged the confidence of international tourists travelling to and from the crisis-affected regions and countries.
The impact of these ongoing crises on the
hospitality and tourism industry has attracted considerable attention from practitioners, policy makers and academics. Jointly organised by the SHTM's Hospitality and Tourism Research Centre and STR, the inaugural IMPACT2020 is committed to bridging the gap between academia and industry practice and thereby exerting a positive impact on hospitality and tourism communities. Taking the theme of "Crisis Management and Recovery Strategies", this year's conference will be held at Hotel ICON, Hong
Kong on 30 October 2020.
The conference will bring industry executives, government officials and academics together to discuss crisis management and recovery strategies to counter the negative impacts of geopolitical and socio-economic crises and uncertainties on world tourism in general and Hong Kong's visitor economy in particular. In view of the COVID-19 outbreak and the challenges it poses to the hospitality and tourism industry, one session of the conference will be dedicated to
COVID-19 related topics such as the impact of the pandemic on the global industry and post-COVID-19 recovery strategies and policies.
IMPACT2020 will feature a number of renowned industry and academic speakers with considerable experience of crisis management practice and research. Whereas many other conferences target practitioners and academics separately, IMPACT2020 will bring industry executives and academics together to discuss and debate crisis management from different
perspectives to develop the best recovery strategies for crisis-hit sectors of the hospitality and tourism industry. The participants will share their views on the latest industry trends and prospects and propose solutions to the problems currently faced by the industry.
The conference will be relevant to those from the following sectors of the hospitality and tourism industry.
- Retail
- Travel
- Hotels
- Restaurants
- Attractions
- Theme Parks
- Airlines
