Organised by the SHTM and its Hospitality and Tourism Research Centre together with STR, supported by the School of Tourism Management of Sun Yat-sen University and the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies, and sponsored by the University Grants Committee, the Second GBA Smart Tourism Forum will take place at the School on 17 December 2021. Taking the theme "Connectivity and Sustainability for Better Travel", the Forum will be held both
offline and online.
Building on the success of the inaugural Forum, the Second GBA Smart Tourism Forum will extend and deepen insights into developing the GBA into a smart tourism destination and managing smart tourism experiences in the region. With the rapid advancement and ever wider application of new technologies in the tourism industry, increasing emphasis has been placed on travellers' smart tourism experiences. The Second Forum will discuss how the integration of technology and
travel in the GBA can increase travellers' access to transboundary destinations, facilitate their responsive processes and enrich their travel experiences by providing ubiquitous information and service environments.
With its remarkable achievements in technological and tourism development, the GBA has enormous potential to develop into an international smart tourism destination and a world-class smart city cluster. Offering opportunities for transboundary authorities, businesses, and
scholars to develop and share their ideas, as well as to deepen their cross-border connections, the Second Forum will provide an interdisciplinary platform for researchers, practitioners and decision-makers to discuss the most recent innovations, trends and concerns as well as practical challenges encountered and solutions adopted in smart tourism experience development. We encourage stakeholders across borders to actively exchange knowledge to sustainably co-create value for the
region.
The Second Forum will cover a broad range of topics, including the following.
- Smart Cities and Smart Destinations
- Information and Communication Technologies
- Applications, Social Media and Digital Marketing
- Marketing and Branding Smart Tourism Destinations
- Electronic Distribution for Tourism Products
- Immersive Technologies (Artificial Reality/Virtual Reality)
