ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
Professor Sam Kim received a Leadership Trophy from APacCHRIE and a Contribution Plaque from the APacCHRIE 2023 Annual Conference Organising Team at the APacCHRIE Annual Conference on 27 May 2023 in Clark, The Philippines. He successfully served as the President (2021-2022 term) and Immediate Past President (2022-2023 term) of APacCHRIE.
Miss Yoobin Chae and Miss Trinity Ng, Year 2 students in the BSc (Hons) in Tourism & Events Management programme, were awarded as 1st runners up in the Collegiate ESG Idea Challenge for their topic, "Green Token: Connecting Hotels and People for Our Sustainable Future", at the 2023 Global ESG Conference in Seoul, Korea, on 31 May.
The SHTM Student Chapter of the Club Managers' Association (CMA) received the Student Club of the Year Award 2022/23. This award is presented annually to a Student Club that has been recognised by the SHTM for demonstrating excellent performance. The CMA is committed to offering student members a well-rounded set of experiences to increase their interest in the private club industry, boost their industry awareness and prepare them for career success.
SHTM staff members successfully obtained Financial Support for Book Writing from PolyU. This support will provide funding for Professor Mimi Li's book, "Principles of Tourism Planning"; Dr Dan Wang's book, "Digital Transformation & Innovation Strategies in Hospitality Business: Cases of Chinese Domestic Brands"; and Dr Anyu Liu's book, "Tourism Development and Common Prosperity in China: A Micro-Macro Dual Perspective".
Dr Faye Hao obtained funding for her project, "Working with Avatars to Achieve Sustainability in the Hospitality Industry", from PolyU's Postdoc Matching Fund Scheme 2022/23. Dr Hao and Dr Jason Zhang also obtained funding for their project, "I Love Halal", from PolyU's Greater Bay Area (GBA) Start-up Postdoc Programme – Hong Kong Scheme.
The Master of Science in Global Hospitality Business programme has won an award in the International Strategy of the Year category of the 2023 THE Awards Asia. The award recognised the programme's outstanding success in establishing institutional partnerships and globally focused approach to education.
Professor Cathy Hsu was honoured with a Women of Virtue award, which was given in the Essence of Women category of the inaugural Travel Daily Media – Inspiring Women in Travel (Asia) Awards 2023 on 24 June. These awards honour women who have made outstanding contributions to the travel industry by demonstrating exceptional leadership, innovation and a commitment to driving positive change.
SHTM staff members were successful in obtaining grants from the Public Policy Research Funding Scheme this year. The Scheme will provide funding for:
  • Professor Kam Hung's project "Developing a Tourism Cluster in the Greater Bay Area: A Dual Branding Perspective".
  • Dr Dan Wang's project "Developing a Hotel Environmental Sustainability Management Index (HESMI) for Hotels in Hong Kong".

Mr Allen He, a final year student in the BSc (Hons) in Tourism and Events Management programme, and Dr Mahlagha Darvish Motevali achieved 2nd place in the Best Paper Award for their co-authored paper "Corporate Environmental Responsibility, Green Satisfaction, and Green Value Co-Creation" at the 19th Asia Pacific Forum for Graduate Students Research in Tourism, which took place in Danang, Vietnam, from 30 June to 2 July 2023.
Professor Sam Kim is placed 25th in the world among top 1,000 contributors in Business Research according to the Australian Business Deans Council (ABDC) Journal Quality List. The annual snapshot of rankings is published in a study entitled "P-Rank 2023 – the Top 1000 contributors, the Top 1000 Collaborators, and the Top 250 Individuals in Business Research".
