CONFERENCES/SEMINARS/WORKSHOPS
The SHTM's Food and Wine Academy organised several workshops, including the following:
  • Chef Simon Rogan, internationally renowned British chef, shared his story and philosophy at a seminar on 6 June 2023.

  • Ms Katrin Lang, the 74th German Wine Queen, introduced The Pinot Family – Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir at a wine-tasting workshop on 9 June 2023.

  • Chef Connie Mama taught a hands-on Thai Cooking Class on 5 July 2023.

  • Mr Christopher Beros, Director, Greater China & Southeast Asia, California Wine Institute, guided the tasting workshop "The Golden State of Wine" on 7 July 2023.

  • Mr Gary Tong, Country Manager, Impossible Foods, talked about plant-based eating and how to cook with Impossible meat at the workshop "Impossible Foods: A Brief Look into the Delicious and Sustainable Future" on 11 July 2023.

Dr Anyu Liu participated in the panel session "Insights into the Future of Tourism in the Asia Pacific" at the PATA Annual Summit & Adventure Mart 2023 in Nepal from 30 May to 2 June.
Dean Kaye Chon, Prof Haiyan Song, Dr Catherine Cheung, Dr YooHee Hwang, Dr Clare Fung, Mr Jason Kelly and Ph.D. student Ms Olive Nyaga attended the 2023 Global ESG Conference in Seoul, Korea, on 31 May. Dean Chon delivered a keynote speech and participated in the expert panel discussion. Professor Song presented a paper entitled "Are Tourists Willing to Pay for Travel Carbon Offset Products?" and moderated a session entitled "ESG Practices in Tourism and Hospitality". Dr Cheung moderated a session entitled "ESG Customer Relationships in Tourism and Hospitality".
Prof Haiyan Song shared the latest research on the impact of COVID-19 on tourists' behaviour with students across the GBA at the 8th Annual Tourism Education Student Summit in Macau on 7 June 2023.
Dean Kaye Chon, Dr Norman Au, Dr Deniz Kucukusta, Dr Ada Lo and Mr Jason Kelly attended the 19th Asia Pacific Forum for Graduate Students Research in Tourism in Danang, Vietnam from 30 June to 2 July 2023.
Several SHTM staff members, including Dean Kaye Chon, Dr Sabrina Huang, Dr Neil Li, Dr Sung Gyun Mun, Dr Dori Davari, Dr Jaehee Gim, Dr Faye Hao, Mr Jason Kelly, and Miss Yueming Guo, attended the 28th Asia Pacific Tourism Association (APTA) Annual Conference in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on 5-7 July 2023.
  • Dean Chon participated in the APTA Graduate Panel Session "Re-thinking Academic Research and Graduate Education in Hospitality and Tourism Management in the Era of Big Data and AI".
  • Dr Huang presented co-authored papers entitled "Tourists' Value Co-Creation with Service Robots" and "Leisure Space Conflict and Intercultural Understanding".
  • Dr Li presented co-authored papers entitled "Combination Forecasts of Tourism Demand Using Search Intensity Indices Data: An Ensemble Learning Based Meta Learner" and "The Role of Consumer-Generated Photos in Hotel Demand Forecasting: An Artificial Intelligence Approach".
  • Dr Mun presented a co-authored paper entitled "How Can Hotels Manage Their Slack Resources to Cope with Crises?".
  • Dr Davari presented a co-authored paper entitled "Island Destination Competitiveness: Subjective Well-Being Perspective".
  • Dr Gim presented a co-authored paper entitled "What Matters More in Hotel Guests' Online Review Ratings? Assessing the Cultural Difference between Eastern vs Western Consumers Using Trip Advisor Data".
  • Dr Hao presented a co-authored paper entitled "Pro-Poor Tourism: Does Tourism Income Distribution Matter to Tourists?".
  • Mr Kelly presented a co-authored paper entitled "Hospitality Asian-Ness and Customer Satisfaction: A Study of Hong Kong Hotels".
  • Miss Guo, Dr Hao, and Dean Chon presented a co-authored paper entitled "Blockchain Technology for a Traceable Food Supply Chain in the Restaurant Industry".
