Inauguration of the Research Centre for Digital Transformation of Tourism
Under the directorship of Professor Haiyan Song, SHTM Associate Dean, Chair Professor and Mr and Mrs Chan Chak Fu Professor in International Tourism, the Research Centre for Digital Transformation of Tourism (RCdTT) was recently established with a view towards optimising travel experiences and business operations through the digital transformation of the tourism industry and ensuring its environmental and business sustainability.

On 19 February, the RCdTT was inaugurated with welcome remarks by Professor Jin-Guang Teng, President of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The Centre was then unveiled by Professor Christopher Chao, Vice President (Research and Innovation) of PolyU and Prof Haiyan Song, RCdTT Director following inspirational speeches by Professor Qingyan Chen, Director of the PolyU Academy for Interdisciplinary Research (PAIR); Professor Kaye Chon, SHTM Dean, Chair Professor and Walter and Wendy Kwok Family Foundation Professor in International Hospitality Management; and Ms Monica Lee-Muller, Vice Chairman of the SHTM Industry Advisory Committee.

The meaningful event concluded with a keynote speech by Professor Gang Li, Professor of Tourism Economics and Director of the Centre for Competitiveness of the Visitor Economy, University of Surrey on the important topic of "Digital Transformation of Tourism – Current Trends and Future Prospects".

Led by Professor Haiyan Song and Professor Qing Li, RCdTT Co-Director, Chair Professor and Head of the Department of Computing at PolyU, the RCdTT is established under PAIR with the following missions and research foci.
  • Digital Transformation – Development of a digital monitoring system for tourism and hospitality and AI-driven business and experience innovations.
  • Interdisciplinary Research – Reshape tourism and hospitality business operations, destination governance and international collaborations for inbound and outbound tourism.
