ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
On 26 March 2024, Mr Anthony Liu, a final-year student in the BSc in Hotel Management programme, received the Outstanding Student Award, School of Hotel and Tourism Management 2023 at the Presentation Ceremony for the Outstanding Student Award and Presidential Student Leadership Award 2023. Outstanding Student Awards are granted annually to full-time, final-year students who excel in both academic and non-academic pursuits during their studies.
At the same ceremony, Miss Kyla Huang, a final-year student in the BSc in Hotel Management programme, received the Presidential Student Leadership Award, School of Hotel and Tourism Management 2023. Presidential Student Leadership Awards are given to affirm students' excellent leadership performance and relentless passion for serving the community.
The award ceremony for the SHTM's "Hotel Room of the Future" competition for secondary school students was held on 26 March 2024. The awardees were as follows:
  • Champion – A student team from the Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College
  • 1st Runner Up – A student team from the TWGHs Kap Yan Directors' College
  • 2nd Runner Up – A student team from SKH Lam Woo Memorial Secondary School
  • Merit Prizes – Student teams from the Hong Kong Chinese Women's Club College and HKFYG Lee Shau Kee College
The SHTM expressed its sincere appreciation to all the participants for demonstrating their creative talents. The level of engagement in and enthusiasm for the competition was truly inspiring, with registration exceeding 200 secondary school students. Each entry made a unique contribution to the excitement of the competition.
Launching the 20th Session of the SHTM Students' Association (SHTMSA), with the cabinet name "Entheos", on 15 April 2024, Mr Justin Chung, a Year 1 student in the BSc Scheme in Hotel and Tourism Management, led the 13-member executive committee in taking an oath to serve the association's members with sincerity and courtesy. The committee expressed their intention to embody the theme of the inauguration ceremony, namely "Prodigious".
Mr Christopher Chen, a Year 2 student in the BSc (Hons) in Hotel and Tourism Management (Smart Tourism and Hospitality) programme; Mr Gavin Gai, a Year 2 student in the BSc (Hons) in Hotel and Tourism Management with a secondary major in the IE programme; and Miss Thea Shu, Mr Aisultan Toibolgan and Miss Kiki Zhang, Year 2 students in the BSc (Hons) in Hotel and Tourism Management (Hotel Management) programme, became the latest group of Elite Management Trainees at Hotel ICON on 29 April 2024. As the brightest and most promising students in the SHTM, they will receive intensive training for 11 months to gain the necessary experience to work as supervisors or managers upon graduation.
Professor Cathy Hsu received the World Tourism Academy Leader Award 2024 from the Association of Turkish Tourism Academics at the 5th Conference on Managing Tourism Across Continents in Istanbul, Turkey on 1-4 May 2024.
The School organised the SHTM Reel Challenge 2024 to encourage students to showcase their remarkable journeys of learning at the SHTM in captivating reels. The Champion was Miss Yvie Chen, a Year 3 BSc student, and the 1st Runner-up and 2nd Runner-up were Miss Carrie Yeung, a Year 1 BSc student, and Miss Lisa Tan, an MSc student, respectively.
The SHTM Event Society received the Student Club of the Year Award 2023/24. This award is presented annually to a student club that is recognised by the SHTM and has demonstrated excellent performance. The SHTM Event Society is committed to offering student members a well-rounded set of opportunities to learn and practise event management skills, gain insights into and experience in the fast-growing industry, and network with event industry leaders to gain contacts for their career development.
Miss Selina Lao, Miss Heidi Tan, Miss Kehan Wang and Miss Guanyu Zhao, BSc students in the Tourism and Events Management programme, won the awards at the 2nd China University Student Tourism Management Virtual Simulation Competition held on 15-19 May in Guangzhou, China. These awards were Second Prize in the Virtual Simulation Competition, Best Rural Revitalisation Project Proposal and Third Prize in the TikTok Clips Contest. Moreover, Dr Richard Qiu was bestowed with the Excellent Supervisor Award at this event for supervising the student team.


At the APacCHRIE Youth Conference held on 24-26 May 2024 in Seoul, Korea, SHTM students were bestowed Best Paper Awards. Miss Xenia Wong, BSc student in Tourism and Events Management programme, won First Place for her co-authored paper entitled "Exploring the Asymmetric Impact and Relative Competitiveness of Service Attributes on Customer Satisfaction and Dissatisfaction: Impact Asymmetry Competitor Analysis and Two-Factor Theory". Miss Yujin Yang, BSc student in Hotel Management programme, received Second Runner-up for her co-authored paper entitled "AI-Supportive or Vigilant in the Hospitality Industry: Integrating Employee and Consumer Views to Extend the TAM and AIDUA Models".
SHTM students were awarded top prizes at the Undergraduate Students ESG Idea Competition at the 2024 Global ESG Conference, held in Jeju, Korea on 27-29 May. Miss Mina Kang and Miss Jasmine Poon, Year 4 BSc students, won 1st prize for their presentation "Trash to Trend (T2T): Upcycling Hotel Waste into Fashionable Treasures". Mr Christopher Chen, Miss Venus Chung and Mr Ben Lim, Year 2 BSc students, received 2nd prize for their presentation "GREENIE, Your One-Stop Online Platform for Browsing Hotel’s ESG Commitments and Performance Benchmarking".
