Dean Kaye Chon delivered a lecture on "Your Career in the Asia's Century of Hospitality and Tourism" to undergraduate and graduate students at Hanyang University in Seoul and Woosong University in Daejeon, Korea on 28 and 29 March 2024, respectively.
Dean Kaye Chon delivered a guest lecture to undergraduate students at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan on 2 April 2024.
The SHTM's Food and Wine Academy organised several workshops, including those listed below.
  • Mr Paolo Fassina, APAC Director, Castello Banfi, spoke about the culture of Italian wine and guided a tasting at the "Italian Wine Culture & Appreciation Workshop" on 2 April 2024.
  • Ms Karen Kong, Director, Hong Kong & Taiwan, USA Poultry and Egg Export Council and Ms Sylvaine Siu, Hong Kong Representative, California Raisin Administrative Committee, taught at the "Raisin Scone Cooking Class" on 9 May 2024.
  • Ms Olivia Lee, Sommelier and Founder, Penticton, introduced wines from Occitanie, a region in the South of France, at the workshop "The Sweet Tastes of South of France from Domaine Piquemal" on 16 May 2024.
  • Mr Olivier Hui-Bon-Hoa, Regional Director – Asia, Delaunay Vins & Domaines, discussed the Occitanie region and tasted and described its local grapes at the workshop "The Original Tastes of South of France from Les Jamelles" on 21 May 2024.
  • Mr Jean-Baptiste Mage, Director, The Wine Guild, Ms Minnie Wong, Managing Director, Wine to Love and Chef Steven Jin, Executive Pastry Chef, The St. Regis Hong Kong delivered a wine workshop and cooking class at the France Alumni Day 2024 on 24 May.
  • Mr Hassan Mousmar, Marketing Director, Suntana Vineyards, introduced and guided the tasting at the "Suntana Orange Wine Workshop" on 27 May 2024.
Professor Haiyan Song and Dr Anyu Liu attended the Annual Conference of Tourism Science 2024 in Guangzhou, China from 12 to 14 April 2024. Professor Song presented the keynote lecture, entitled "Developing a Self-adaptive Forecasting Platform for the GBA".
Dean Kaye Chon, Professor Kam Hung, Dr Nicholas Thomas and Dr Qu Xiao conducted the Dean's Lecture cum Information Seminar at W Suzhou hotel on 13 April 2024. During the seminar, Dean Chon delivered the Dean's Lecture, entitled "Innovations and Leadership in Hospitality and Tourism". Professor Hung, Dr Thomas and Dr Xiao then held an Information Sharing Session to introduce the SHTM's Master's and doctoral degree programmes.
Dean Kaye Chon delivered a distinguished lecture, entitled "Your Future in Asia's Century of Hospitality and Tourism", at the School of Tourism and Culture Industry, Chengdu University on 19 April 2024, with support from the Katie Shu Sui Pui Charitable Trust.
Professor Honggen Xiao presented a keynote speech on "Journals and Academic Publications in Tourism Studies" at the China Tourism Academy Summit 2024, held in Beijing, China from 21 to 23 April 2024.
Professor Cathy Hsu, Dr Faye Hao, Dr Eden Jiao, Dr Jason Zhang, Dr Mahlagha Darvish Motevali and Dr Yitong Yu attended the 5th Conference on Managing Tourism Across Continents in Istanbul, Turkey from 1 to 4 May 2024. Professor Hsu presented a keynote speech on the topic "TOUROMETER: A Social Listening Tool for Tourism Policy and Strategy Formation". Dr Hao presented a co-authored paper entitled "Leveraging Avatars for Environmental Stewardship in the Hospitality Sector". Dr Jiao and Dr Yu presented a co-authored paper entitled "Spatial and Temporal Dynamics of Hotel Demand Resilience". Dr Darvish Motevali presented a paper entitled "The Power of the Competency Formula: Fostering Creativity in Uncertain Conditions".
Dean Kaye Chon and Dr Tony Tse attended the 14th Asia Tourism Forum in Palembang, Indonesia from 6 to 8 May 2024. Dean Chon delivered an opening speech and presented a keynote lecture on the "Future of Hospitality and Tourism Education".
Dr Ibrahim Mohammed presented a paper entitled "The Dynamics of Human-System Collaboration in Revenue Management" at the HSMAI's Revenue Optimization Conference 2024, held in Singapore from 8 to 9 May 2024.
Professor Cathy Hsu presented a keynote lecture on "Research with Impact: A Tool to Support Social Sustainability of Tourism" at the INVTUR 2024 Conference, held in Aveiro, Portugal from 8 to 10 May 2024.
Dean Kaye Chon delivered a keynote speech on "The Future of Hospitality and Tourism Education: Technology, Innovation and Sustainability" at the 2024 International Conference on Hospitality, Tourism and Leisure, held in Taipei, Taiwan from 10 to 11 May.
Professor Jinsoo Lee, Dr Janelle Chan, Dr Jaehee Gim, Dr Michael Lin and Dr Angie Luo attended the 1st International Early-Career Researcher Conference in Hospitality and Tourism, held in Macau from 10 to 12 May 2024. Dr Chan presented a paper entitled "The Role of AI-Generated Images in Promoting Sustainable Cuisine in Gastronomic Tourism". Dr Gim presented a co-authored paper entitled "The Effects of Hotel Photo Colour Saturation on Leisure and Business Travellers". Dr Lin presented a paper entitled "Factors Motivate Tourism Small Businesses: Views from External Environment". Dr Luo presented a co-authored paper entitled "Making Tourism Destination More Attractive via Eye Gaze: The Role of Gender".
Professor Haiyan Song, Dr Dori Davari and Dr Anyu Liu attended the PATA Annual Summit, held in Macau from 15 to 17 May 2024. Professor Song participated in the breakout session on "Education Tourism". Dr Davari moderated a panel discussion entitled "Deep Dive into the Future of the Tourism Workforce".
Dr Richard Qiu made a keynote speech entitled "Define Future: Hospitality and Tourism Education under Digital Transformation" at the 2nd China University Student Tourism Management Virtual Simulation Competition held from 15 to 19 May 2024 in Guangzhou, China.
Dr Henry Tsai presented a paper entitled "The Influence of Organisational Resilience on Hospitality Firms' Performance: The Role of Organisational Slack" at the 32nd CHME Conference, held in Leeds, UK from 21 to 24 May 2024.
Dr Anyu Liu, Dr Richard Qiu, Ms Tiffany Cheng, and Mr Joey Wu attended the 9th Conference of the International Association for Tourism Economics, held in Orlando, USA from 21 to 24 May 2024. Dr Qiu presented a paper entitled "Enormous Retail Profits and Where to Find Them". Ms Cheng and Mr Wu presented a co-authored paper entitled "New Labour Importation Schemes: The Magic Wand for Hong Kong's Tourism Revival?".
