ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION
Prof Sam Kim was recognised with a Lifetime Achievement in Tourism Research Award at the International Conference of Tourism (ICOT) 2024 Conference held on 26-29 June 2024 in Corfu, Greece.
The following SHTM staff members have been awarded grants by the Research Centre for Digital Transformation of Tourism.
  • Prof Cathy Hsu, for a project entitled "Dual-Role Host–Guest Interactive Gaze: Resident and Tourist Sentiment in an Interaction Perspective Using Big Data Analytics".
  • Prof Mimi Li, for a project entitled "A Multi-Modal Generative AI-Driven Interactive Tour Guide Interpretation System for Historical Landmarks and Museums".
  • Dr Richard Qiu, for a project entitled "The Assessment and Monitoring of Sustainability Impact of Tourism: An Extension of Tourism Demand Forecasting".
SHTM Ph.D. students won awards at the SHTM Three Minute Thesis® Competition held on 31 May 2024, in which they faced the unique challenge of describing their research in just three minutes. Ms Niji Leung was crowned Champion, and Ms Darry Dai and Ms Molly Pang were 1st Runner-Up and 2nd Runner-Up, respectively. Ms Dai also received the People Choice's Award. Ms Leung and Ms Dai will represent the School in the university-wide competition.
Dr Loretta Pang received the Best Paper Award for Hospitality for her co-authored paper entitled "Perception of Welcoming Culture: A Study of Technology Use and Service Training to Enhance Solo Female Travelers Experience" at the Tourism, Hospitality & Events International Conference 2024 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on 5-7 June.
Dean Kaye Chon and Ms Cristina Teijelo Casanova, ICEX Spain Trade and Investment, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 20 June 2024 to establish a continuous collaboration in the field of culture, cuisine, community development and education for the promotion of Spanish foods, wines and gastronomy.
Ms Shiyi Zhang, a student in the MSc in International Wine Management programme, received the Best Paper Award for Students for her paper entitled "Breaking the Glass Ceiling: A Multisource Perspective on Empowering Female Leadership Advancement in the Ningxia Wine Industry" at the 6th Wine and Hospitality Management Workshop organised by the Alliance for Research on Wine and Hospitality Management held pm 25-28 June 2024 in Reims, France.
Prof Yang Yang, Professor, School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management at Temple University and 2010 graduate of the Master of Philosophy programme, received the PolyU Graduate School Outstanding Research Postgraduate Young Alumni Award 2024.
