Since its inception in 2002 by the SHTM, the Asia Pacific Forum for Graduate Students Research in Tourism (APF) has become an important platform for graduate students and emerging scholars, who can showcase their innovative research in the ever-evolving sectors of tourism and hospitality. The APF fosters the exchange of knowledge, encourages interdisciplinary collaboration, and addresses the latest trends and challenges within the Asia
Pacific region and beyond. The forum has a rich history and has been hosted across various locations including Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, mainland China, and Singapore.
The 21st APF, organised by the SHTM, will be held from 14 to 16 May 2025 in Hong Kong. Authors are invited to submit completed research or work in progress that spans the diverse range of tourism and hospitality studies. The Forum is open to contributions that explore current issues in
tourism and hospitality research and education, and other multidisciplinary topics related to industry practices. Potential themes for paper submissions include but are not limited to:
- Contemporary challenges in tourism and hospitality
- Digital innovation in tourism and hospitality
- The integration of AI and robotics in the industry
- Advances in smart tourism and hospitality
- The influence of social media on the industry
- Strategies for tourism planning and impact assessment
- Policy and regulatory impacts on tourism
- Consumer behaviour in tourism and hospitality
- Educational advancements in tourism and hospitality
- Human capital development within the industry
- Techniques in destination marketing, e-commerce, and travel agency management
- Approaches to sustainable tourism development
- Case studies on nature-based and eco-tourism
- Insights into event tourism and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism
- Economic implications of tourism
- Financial management strategies in tourism and hospitality
- Utilisation of big data analytics in the industry
- Other relevant topics in tourism and hospitality research, education, and industry practices
Eligibility for Presentation
The conference invites submissions from graduate students, faculty members, researchers, and industry professionals. While papers can feature multiple authors, the presentation must be
delivered by a current or recent graduate student. Early career academics may also present, provided their work was completed during their graduate studies. Undergraduate students may be considered for presentation under exceptional circumstances, particularly if they were the primary researchers of the work.
Submissions
Interested parties should submit a three-page abstract (double-spaced) for consideration. The author's name and affiliation should appear only on the
cover page of the abstract to ensure anonymity during the review process. Upon acceptance, at least one author and the designated presenter must register for and attend the conference to present the paper.
Publication Opportunities and Awards
Accepted papers, whether in abstract or full paper form, will be published in the edited conference proceedings. Post-conference, the authors of the presented papers will be invited to submit their work to selected journals for potential publication, including the sponsoring journals of the Conference: the Journal of Travel & Tourism Marketing, Asia Pacific Journal of Tourism Research, and Journal of China Tourism Research. Exceptional papers will be recognised with a Best Paper Award.

*Registration fees include access to the opening reception, two lunches, three refreshment breaks, a gala dinner, all conference sessions, and an e-copy of the conference proceedings.
