Name of Lecture / Conference:

Learning and Teaching Strategies Series: Workshop on Remote-controlled Experiments for Physics

Description / Introduction:

Practical work is an indispensable part of science education. Performing investigations with meticulous control of the variables, making observations, data collection and analysis, interpretation of results and drawing conclusions are the process skills essential to the learning of science. Well-designed experimental settings enable students to have first-hand experiences to recognise the relevant scientific phenomena and verify their knowledge acquired from textbooks. The "Microcontroller(Arduino)-Smartphone Platform", developed by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was introduced in this workshop for students to conduct experiments in anywhere which can enrich the physics learning experience of students.

The workshop aimed:

(1) to introduce the "Microcontroller(Arduino)-Smartphone Platform" for conducting experiments; and

(2) to demonstrate how to make use of the "Microcontroller(Arduino)-Smartphone Platform" to facilitate the learning and teaching of Physics.
