摘要

Seminar 1 - Decoding the Aravind Model

Aravind Eye Hospital, established in 1976 had a very humble beginning in a rented house. Now it is a network of 14 hospitals and 120 community eye clinics and vision centers, serving a population of 100 million. Patient volumes have continued to grow with over 6 million outpatient visits and 722,000 surgeries/procedures performed during last year. Like any enduring institution, Aravind Eye Hospital has weathered its share of challenges and triumphs. In hindsight, there have been several lessons, many of which have relevance beyond Aravind Eye Hospitals. This talk will dwell on those lessons, focusing on the drivers of growth and building the culture or DNA of the organization.

Seminar 2 - Enhancing Eye Care Globally through Capacity Building Initiatives

The Lions Aravind Institute of Community Ophthalmology (LAICO) serves as the training and consultancy division of Aravind Eye Care System. Established in 1992, LAICO’s mission is to contribute to the prevention and control of global blindness through consultancy, teaching, training, research, publications, and advocacy in eye care. LAICO has worked with over 380 eye hospitals in India and other developing countries, facilitating capacity building through a collaborative process. Over 3000 eye care professionals from 75 countries have been trained in eye care management and leadership. LAICO has also developed several need-based management tools in eye care that aid in assessing, planning, implementing, and managing high-quality, efficient, and sustainable eye care programs in the developing world. It is conservatively estimated that these initiatives have resulted in an annual addition of 800,000 eye surgeries globally.
