余頌華博士畢業於中國廣州暨南大學醫學院臨床醫學專業，取得內外全科醫學士學位。隨後，余博士在香港中文大學醫學院兒科學系攻讀研究生課程分別取得臨床醫學哲學碩士博士學位。她的碩士論文是關於輸血（红细胞）對早產兒左心輸出量和耗氧量的影響，而其博士論文是關於力量訓練和飲食介入對管理兒童肥胖症的效果。她曾參對本港兒童腰圍數據和心血管關係的分析研究、 6分鐘步行測試和心肺功能測試等研究項目。目前，余博士主要的研究課題包括兒童肥胖症、兒童心肺評估、體力活動與健康、以及為自閉症譜系障礙兒童制定運動方案。
