Press - PolyU UBSN’s Multidisciplinary Neuroscience Research Platform Featured in Nature

The University Research Facility in Behavioral and Systems Neuroscience (UBSN) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University offers a state-of-art technological platform to support research of diverse fields in neuroscience, including rehabilitation sciences, neurolinguistics, and artificial intelligence. UBSN researchers are featured in the latest Nature Index Neuroscience, sharing their research experiences and how UBSN assists in their impactful research discoveries.  Prof. Marco Pang, Shun Hing Education and Charity Fund Professor in Rehabilitation Sciences, Chair Professor of Neurorehabilitation, Head of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences and Director of UBSN, discussed how his research team's combined use of functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) at UBSN can give a more comprehensive view of brain activities, allowing for assessment of effectiveness of stroke rehabilitative interventions.  Dr. Georg Kranz, Presidential Young Scholar and Associate Professor of the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences, shared about his team's use of intermittent theta burst stimulation (iTBS) at UBSN, along with machine learning. This has potential to allow more personalised and effective treatment plans for depression.  Dr. CaiCai Zhang, Associate Professor of the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies, described her research team’s use of neural imaging technology and machine learning approaches. This may allow for identification and prediction of cognitive issues in four-year-olds, enabling early interventions for children with language disorders.    Read more: https://www.nature.com/articles/d42473-024-00315-9

UBSN Management Committee Professors and User Group Member Ranked Top 2% Most Cited Scientists

Stanford University has recently updated a database that represented top-cited scientists worldwide†. We are very excited to share the news with you that a number of our UBSN Management Committee professors and a User Group member have ranked among the world's top 2% most-cited scientists. The Stanford research team retrieved Scopus publication data up to end-of-2023 provided by Elsevier and standardised citation data using metrics, e.g., h-index, co-authorship hm-index. The calculation resulted in a list of 100,000 top scientists across the world from 22 scientific fields and 174 sub-fields. Congratulations on the outstanding achievement.     Name (ordered by role, then by last names)  Subject field  Percentile        Metric Criteria   Prof. Marco Pang (SCOPUS profile link)  Director of UBSN       Rehabilitation  Top 1%  Career and Single-year   Prof. Ping LI (SCOPUS profile link)  Associate Director of UBSN     Psychology & Cognitive Sciences     Top 2%  Single-year   Prof. Kenneth Fong (SCOPUS profile link)  Member of UBSN Management Committee       Rehabilitation    Top 2%   Single-year  Prof. Yongping Zheng (SCOPUS profile link)  Member of UBSN Management Committee           Biomedical engineering  Top 2%  Career and Single-year  Dr. Arnold Wong (SCOPUS profile link)  Member of UBSN User Group  Orthopaedics  Top 2%  Single-year   †Reference: Ioannidis, John P.A.
