Introduction:
The Thermo Scientific Neptune Plus high resolution multicollector ICP-MS is used to characterize the isotope composition of different elements in a variety of different materials including sediments, fluids, rocks and biological phases. It enables a wide variety of disciplinary and interdisciplinary research projects, covering topics from chemical and environmental sciences, earth sciences, nuclear sciences and other fields requiring high-precision isotope ratio measurements. Its jet interface, double-focusing mass analyzer, retarding potential quadrupole lenses and fully flexible detection system offers ultimate high mass resolution, ground-breaking sensitivity, unsurpassed linearity and robust stability.
Major Functions:
The Thermo Scientific Neptune Plus high resolution multicollector ICP-MS is equipped with (1) eight computer controlled movable Faraday detectors, one fixed center Faraday detector; (2) one Retarding Potential Quadrupole filter and one Secondary Electron Multiplier; (3) Cetac Aridus II Nebulizer with Membrane Desolvation, and (4) Cetac ASX-112 FR Autosampler with Peri-pump option.
The instrument is at the time available for the determination of Hg isotope compositions in sediments. Additional isotope systems are actively being developed.
Notes to users:
Samples should be prepared by users in their own departments. The user must ensure laboratory safety rules, included but not limited to chemical safety rules, when doing analysis in the MC-ICPMS laboratory. Inexperienced users may seek assistance from the laboratory supervisor.
Specimen requirements:
Specimen preparation is variable depending on the user and the application required.
