Chairman Yang, University Council Members, President Tong and Honoured Guests,
It is my great honour to be awarded this University Fellowship by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
I attended evening courses at the Hong Kong Technical College upon graduation from secondary school. This enabled me to have a strong academic foundation, which was instrumental to my later development in the industrial and business sectors. In 1982, my partners and I established Fujikon Industrial Holdings Limited, which specialises in the production of electric and electro-acoustic products. Business has thrived throughout the years and Fujikon was listed on the Main Board of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited in 2000, being the first manufacturer of electro-acoustic products to be listed. Despite these achievements, I always remind myself to keep striving for the best and to keep learning and improving, lest that I would otherwise become complacent.
Over the years, I have accumulated extensive industry experience which has brought me my achievements today. I was delighted to receive an Honorary Fellowship from The Professional Validation Council of Hong Kong Industries in 2004, and the Director Of The Year Awards (Listed Companies Executive Director) from the Hong Kong Institute of Directors in 2007. I was also honoured to be appointed Industrial Fellow by the University of Warwick in 2011. Encouragement and recognition from others has motivated me to continue in the pursuit of my endeavors.
Business aside, I hope to lead by example in encouraging others to contribute to the betterment and development of society. Ever since I was appointed Vice President of The Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong and Chairman of the Hong Kong Electronic Industries Association, I have been committed to facilitating a closer bond between industry and different functional constituencies and organizations within the community. I have also strived to enhance information transfer from the Chinese mainland so as to forge greater cooperation and exchange between Hong Kong and the mainland.
I have always upheld the principle “To give back to society and to fulfill social responsibility,” which is also the corporate value of Fujikon. Dedicated to serving the community, I actively support and take part in various philanthropic activities. I am Current Adviser of Yan Chai Hospital and Yan Oi Tong, member of the Wong Tai Sin (South West) Area Committee, President of the Wong Tai Sin Junior Police Call and President of Hong Kong Wong Tai Sin Industry and Commerce Association. In recent years, I have been particularly involved in the development of youth services in Wong Tai Sin district. For example, we co-organized the “Outstanding Entrepreneur Talk” with the School Liaison Committee, in which distinguished and young entrepreneurs shared their experiences with students. We also coordinated a tour to the Pearl River Delta for senior high students to visit production plants in the Chinese mainland, so as to enable them to gain a better understanding of current industrial development. In addition, with the support from the Wong Tai Sin District Office, I established the Wong Tai Sin Industry and Commerce Association Scholarship to encourage students in the district to pursue academic excellence and to become future leaders serving the community.
Finally, I would like to thank The Hong Kong Polytechnic University for conferring upon me the honorary title of University Fellow. I would also like to thank all of you for your support and encouragement.
