As many of you are aware, Professsor Leung Tin Pui is one of PolyU’s longest serving staff members. Professor Leung is currently Professor Emeritus and Honorary Director of our Confucius Institute of Hong Kong. Prior to his retirement in 2006, he was our Vice President (Student Development). A prominent and leading scholar in mechanical engineering, Professor Leung joined the then Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1972 and since then has been actively involved in the academic and student development of the University. Professor Leung is now a member of the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation and the Quality Assurance Council of the University Grants Committee.
Despite his busy schedule, Professor Leung has actively participated in the committees of various professional bodies over the years, taking up the roles as President of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and Chairman of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (Hong Kong Branch). Apart from devoting his efforts to teaching and research, Professor Leung played a pivotal role in promoting student development at PolyU. During his tenure as Vice President, the University set up its Culture Promotion Committee and launched its first Arts Festival to enrich students’ campus life.
In 2003, Professor Leung was awarded a Bronze Bauhinia Star by the HKSAR Government in recognition of his valuable contribution to quality assurance in the higher education sector in Hong Kong.
