Mr Ng Wing Hong, who graduated in 1939, is one of the first graduates of PolyU’s predecessor, the Hong Kong Government Trade School. With a Diploma in Building, Mr Ng set up a construction company and continued to develop his building career until his retirement in 1997. The most unforgettable experience in his career, he recalled, was back in 1949 when he had to work day and night to complete the Royal Air Force Sek Kong runway project within just three months.
Now almost in his nineties, Mr Ng still maintains a strong tie with his alma mater and gives tremendous support to PolyU. He is the first student invited to teach evening building courses at the Trade School, and among the first supporters of PolyU’s recent tree-naming campaign, which gathers funds for the long-term development of the University.
Mr Ng is Member of the Royal Chartered Institute of Building in the 1970s and was previously President of Hong Kong Building Contractors Association. He was also Vice Chairman of Po Leung Kuk and the first elected President of the Student Association of the Hong Kong Technical College in the 1950s. Driven by a strong sense of belonging to PolyU, Mr Ng demonstrates great support and enthusiasm in a range of alumni activities, setting a fine example for fellow graduates.
