President’s Newsletter for Alumni
April 2023

Dear Alumni

After three years of the pandemic, I am glad that our society has finally returned to normal after the removal of pandemic-related travel and social distancing restrictions. I sincerely thank the entire PolyU family, including our alumni, staff, students and members of the wider PolyU community, for their strong unity and support in the fight against the pandemic.

With our university resuming normal operations, I was delighted to see various alumni groups visiting PolyU in the past few months and participating in face-to-face activities once again. For example, representatives from the PolyU (Australia) Association travelled all the way from Sydney to visit PolyU in February. Eleven senior alumni from the class of 1967 also reunited at PolyU at the start of the year to celebrate their 55th Graduation Anniversary. I hope that more alumni from around the world will be able to visit their alma mater soon, and even participate in the alumni tourcations we have available.

Taking this opportunity, I am also pleased to share with you that PolyU placed sixth in the Times Higher Education World’s Most International Universities 2023 rankings earlier this year. This impressive achievement recognises the University’s internationalisation endeavours in nurturing talents and conducting cutting-edge research. We will continue to strengthen ties and cooperation with partners around the world, with the goal of playing a more important role in the global higher education landscape.

Yours sincerely

Jin-Guang Teng
President

PolyU Alumni Ambassadors Appointment Ceremony

I officiated the Alumni Ambassadors Appointment Ceremony and CNY Celebration on 10 February. Dedicated to serving their alma mater after graduation, the 16 new Ambassadors come from various disciplines. Some are former PolyU Student Ambassadors, members of the Federation of PolyU Alumni Associations (FHKPUAA) Chinese Orchestra, or former PolyU sports team members.

More than 60 guests celebrated the event together, including PolyU senior management and staff members, FHKPUAA representatives, and Alumni Ambassadors appointed over the years. We had a delightful evening featuring fun games, special prizes and wonderful performances.

Graduating Class Ambassadors Scheme 2023

Graduating Class Ambassadors (GCAs) are enthusiastic final year students appointed to encourage their fellow classmates to stay connected with PolyU after their graduation. The briefing sessions for this year’s GCAs were held in March. The new Ambassadors were excited to meet representatives from alumni associations and other companions, and shared their ideas on alumni engagement.

For graduates who may have been away from PolyU for a while, but are eager to reconnect with their alma mater, you are always welcome to serve as a Class Connector, a similar role as the GCAs, to help reconnect your fellow classmates with PolyU. For details, please contact the Alumni Affairs Office.

Mainland Alumni Networking Dinner

The Mainland Development Office joined hands with the Beijing Alumni Network and the Renmin University of China-PolyU Doctor of Management Alumni Network, in organising a dinner for mainland alumni in Beijing in March. This was the first physical alumni event held in the mainland since the pandemic. More than 150 alumni joined the event, including leaders from all eight mainland alumni networks. Dr Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President and I also joined the event. I look forward to meeting our alumni in other mainland cities in the months to come.
