President’s Newsletter for Alumni
Summer 2022

Dear Alumni

I hope that you have been keeping safe and healthy amid the ongoing uncertainties brought about by the pandemic. Despite the present challenges, I am pleased to share with you that PolyU has remained fully devoted to striving for excellence in its education and research, which has gained increasing worldwide recognition.

PolyU is now ranked 65th in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings 2023, in an exercise in which more than 1,400 institutions globally were evaluated. This result reflects the University’s commitment to world-class excellence in education and research. To further enhance PolyU’s performance, we will refer to the latest ranking information and other forms of evaluation criteria to identify ways to make even greater contributions for the benefit of Hong Kong, the Nation and the world.

Over the past few months, I was happy to meet our alumni on many occasions, such as at the University Fellowship Conferment Ceremony and luncheons with alumni associations. I know that various departments are organising different alumni activities, and I look forward to meeting more of you on campus soon.

Yours sincerely

Jin-Guang Teng
President

Alumni support for student internships in the Mainland

Since the launch of the “Passing the Torch” internship sponsorship programme earlier this year, the University has received support from nearly 90 Mainland alumni, raising donations that can support 40 students (HK$3,900 per student) to have their internship in the Mainland. The newly launched programme is jointly organised by the Mainland Development Office and Student Affairs Office, with the aim of providing students valuable opportunities to explore the latest Mainland developments and career prospects. We call upon our alumni to financially support this programme so that more students can have an opportunity to enhance their professional competence and whole-person development in the Mainland.
