The Role of Astigmatism during Myopia Development in Chicks

Synopsis:
Myopia and astigmatism are two major causes of visual impairment in the world. It has been reported that significant amounts of astigmatism are frequently observed soon after birth and during myopia development, but very little is known about its role in emmetropization and myopia development. We intend to use a novel method to induce astigmatism in the chicks. Our interest is to assess the structural and functional changes in eyes developing astigmatism and myopia. The results can help us in planning the intervention to prevent or control the myopia progression.
