Biographical Sketch

Dr Kee is an Associate Professor teaching Optometry subjects related to clinical and ophthalmic dispensing at the School of Optometry, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received his Bachelor degree in Optometry from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He later obtained his Masters and PhD degrees from the City College of New York and University of Houston, respectively. Before returning to Hong Kong, Dr Kee was an Assistant Professor in Physiological Optics at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Dr Kee has been conducting research in the field of refractive error development for more than 20 years. He has been using and testing a wide variety of biometric instruments, either commercially available or custom made, for measuring parameters closely related to the optics, size, and shape of developing eyes. He was involved in constructing custom-made equipment to accurately determine the metrics related to the shape of the anterior eye, optically the most powerful eye surface, the cornea, in small animals.

Together with his international (UK & USA) and local collaborators, he has also developed and validated a novel tool used for logging near working distance over time, allowing, for the first time, an objective measure of this important parameter, which has been speculated to be related to the development of short-sightedness.

His work have been published in peer-reviewed international journals (Vision Research, Ophthalmic & Physiological Optics, and Investigative Ophthalmology and Vision Science) and widely cited. From 1999 to 2002, Dr Kee was awarded the William C. Ezell Fellowship by the American Optometric Foundation for his work in refractive error development. In addition to serving as a consultant for ophthalmic lens products by multiple international and local lens manufacturers, he has been serving as a technical expert for Hong Kong Accreditation Service since 2013. In 2013, Dr Kee was awarded a two-year teaching grant to develop online resources for ophthalmic optics and dispensing.
