Title of project:
Proteomics in Lens Induced Myopic (LIM) Mammalian Model
Synopsis:
A complete picture of molecular events involving myopic development remains obscure. Previous studies support the hypothesis that biochemical cascades in myopic eye growth flow from the retina to the sclera. However, most of the previous studies focused mainly on the single target approach which generated limited biochemical information on the interaction among multiple candidates. Mass spectrometric (MS)-based proteomics approach has been proven to be a powerful approach to study global protein expressions in complex biological samples. Some differential protein expressions have also been reported in previous proteomic work using avian myopia model.
This project aims to identify and quantify retinal protein expressions during early emmetropisation and myopia development using guinea pig model based on the next generation proteomics approach combining with sophisticated bioinformatics. The data generated from this mammalian myopia model will be more relevant to understand the complicated biochemical pathways in human myopia.
