Title of project:
Amacrine cells coupled to ON and OFF alpha ganglion cells in mouse retina
Synopsis:
The retina is the light sensing tissue. Different eye diseases such as myopia and glaucoma
affected retina. Ganglion cells are the output neurons of retina, encoding vision signals to the
brain. They show various morphological and eletrophysiological changes in the diseases . It is
also well known that ganglion cells coupled to amacrine cells through gap junction. However,
the specific subtypes of coupled amacrine cell to ganglion cells are unknown. Therefore, my
study is to characterize the subtype of coupled amacrine cell with ganglion cell and gap junctions involved. In further study, we are going to figure out what kind of role the gap
junction plays in related eye diseases and how it can be influenced. Our aim is to clarify the
physiological and morphological changes between ganglion cell and amacrine cell in related eye
diseases and propose possible neuroprotective therapy.
