Our Service Learning CoP is established because of the needs of establishing more service learning courses. PolyU is committed to providing a holistic education to our students. Civic responsibility and social justice is one of our focuses. In the past several years our university has successfully encouraged many students to engage with society through community service, mostly in the form of non-credit bearing, co-curricular activities, both local and offshore. The 4-year curriculum takes the next logical step to strengthen the learning aspects of social engagement through academic credit-bearing subjects on service learning. It becomes a core academic pedagogy at PolyU in the 4-year university programme.
PolyU attempts to support Service Learning subjects, identifying community needs, developing opportunities for Service Learning, and implementing of research in the effective application of Service Learning in university education. Establishing CoP is one of the means to fulfil this goal.
