Introduction
Staff in PolyU are encouraged to use learning analytics (LA) in learning and teaching (L&T) research (e.g., through collaborative research) and share the research results and experience during Community of Practice (CoP) meetings/sessions. To support this initiative, the Community of Practice on Conducting Learning Analytics to Inform Teaching and Learning (CoP LA) is organising a Paper Award to appreciate CoP members who conduct LA in enhancing L&T.
Participants of this Paper Award are required to submit a paper to describe one of their L&T research studies using LA. Submissions will be reviewed by a panel. Based on the selection criteria, the panel will select the first, second and third prize winners. Award winners will be invited to present their paper at a later CoP LA sharing or meeting. Certificates of merit will be given to selected participants.

What is LA
According to the 1st International Conference on Learning Analytics & Knowledge 2011, “learning analytics is the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners and their contexts, for the purposes of understanding and optimizing learning and the environments in which it occurs.”
