Background
The theme of this CoP, which has already been running for three years, is Conducting Learning Analytics to Inform Teaching and Learning. Learning analytics involves the measurement, collection, analysis and reporting of data about learners for the purpose of understanding and improving learning. It has many applications including:
- Developing models to predict learner outcomes and student performance;
- Identification of students who are struggling and understanding what can be done to assist them; and
- Assessing the usefulness of learning materials and resources, evaluating the effectiveness of the curriculum and assisting in evidence-based decision making relating to improving students’ learning experience.
The continuation of this CoP will support the University in further increasing the awareness and adoption of learning analytics in various forms. This has increased substantially through the establishment of this CoP, but there is still considerable scope to expand the use of learning analytics at PolyU and for the University to continue to be a leader in Hong Kong and internationally in this area.
