Biography

Short Description

Dr. Siyang Zhong is currently an Assistant Professor at AAE, PolyU. Before joining the Department, he worked as a Research Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) with a junior fellowship at HKUST Jockey Club Institute for Advanced Study. He studied at Peking University for Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanics and Control Theory respectively. He received his PhD Degree in Mechanical Engineering at HKUST in 2018. He is interested in the fundamental studies of aeroacoustics, aerodynamics, and their applications to practical engineering problems. He works in several working groups to develop national and international standards for the unmanned aircraft system.

 

Research Interests

Aeroacoustics & aerodynamics, aircraft noise, sustainable and green aviation of unmanned aircraft systems, high-performance computing, environmental noise and reduction, sports aerodynamics.

  • Aerodynamic noise and multi-rotor powered flying vehicles, General Research Fund, Hong Kong Research Grant Council, 1/9/2020-31/8/2023.
  • A cycling performance evaluation and enhancement suite based on aerodynamics and motion data analysis, The Sports Science and Research Funding Scheme (SSRFS), HKSAR Government and Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust (HKJCCT), 1/9/2022-31/08/2024.
  • A windsurfing performance enhancement system based on aero-hydrodynamics and motion data analysis, SSRFS, HKSAR Government and HKJCCT, 1/9/2022-31/08/2024.
  • Aeroacoustics of pitch-fixed rotors under complex flying conditions, GRF, RGC, 1/1/2023-31/12/2025.
  • Modelling and synergetic improvement of aerodynamic noise reduction by serrated tailing edges, General Research Fund, Hong Kong Research Grant Council, 1/1/2022-31/12/2024.
  • Supercomputer simulation and big data analysis of environmental noise from aircraft and mechanisms of its generation, National Key R&D Programme, Ministry of Science and Technology of China, 1/1/2020-30/06/2023.
