Ir Daniel Lai has left a lasting legacy on Hong Kong’s digital landscape from the five decades he has spent working in the IT sector. Having held key IT managerial positions with The Hong Kong Jockey Club, he managed one of Asia’s largest computer installations as well as an offshore advanced IT research and technology centre in Australia. He went on to become Head of IT at MTR Corporation, where he led many digital transformation initiatives and established sound IT governance. In 2012, Ir Lai took up the post of Government Chief Information Officer, leading the IT services function for government departments and promoting IT in the community and business sector. He is currently a research team member of PolyU’s Department of Computing, developing a model and platform using AI and Big Data to predict learning and behavioural outcomes of students to address student diversity.
