Prof. Herman Lau Mun-cheung is the first physiotherapist in Hong Kong being appointed as a hospital chief executive. In his role as Chief Executive of three hospitals in the New Territories East Cluster (NTEC), he was instrumental in re-engineering and enhancing the allied health services. He was also a key driver in the use of volunteer services in hospitals, putting together a team of more than 1,000 volunteers who collectively provided around 10,000 hours of service every month. In 2008, he initiated and coordinated rehabilitation support for victims of the Sichuan earthquake; over 200 allied health professionals, including Prof. Lau himself, travelled to Sichuan during weekends and holidays to help people impacted by the disaster. His efforts were recognised in 2009, when he was awarded the HKSAR Chief Executive’s Commendation for Community Service. [More]
