Ms Jessie Yu Sau-chu has used her experience as a single mother to promote the well-being of women, children, single-parent families, and disadvantaged communities. She established the Hong Kong Single Parents Association in the 1990s, which provides counselling, employment training, law consultation, education and other social services to single parents and others in need. Ms Yu has also served on a variety of government boards and committees, such as the Equal Opportunities Commission, the Social Welfare Advisory Committee and the Commission on Poverty. Furthermore, she hosted a radio programme at Radio Television Hong Kong for around two decades, regularly interviewing community members, experts, academics and government officials about psychological and livelihood issues.
