On 16 June 2022, a group of senior alumni of the Faculty of Construction and Environment came back to campus to meet with President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng. Most of them are graduates in Building and Civil and Structural Engineering, and they visited the new campus landmark – PolyU’s main entrance at Core A.
Prof. Teng warmly welcomed the group at the Alumni Atrium and gave a presentation on the latest development and achievements of the University. The alumni were pleased to know that their alma mater has achieved commendable results in various world university rankings, including ranking 1st in Hong Kong in the subject “Engineering – Civil and Structural”.
Touring to the main entrance, the group appreciated the new architecture on campus. As part of the 85th Anniversary celebrations, the University has enhanced its main entrance by reconfiguring the original entrance and enlarging the forecourt, as well as introducing new design elements. Through blending PolyU’s symbolic red brick architecture with a distinctive colonnade design, the main entrance is going to be a new photo spot.
The endless sharing of old-time tales among the group continued during the cozy dinner hosted by the President at the Communal Staff Restaurant. The Faculty of Construction and Environment Education and Research Fund (FCE Fund) as well as the PolyU 85th Anniversary Gift Programme were also introduced. As proud members of the PolyU family, the alumni generously supported the Fund and the Programme.
Prof. Teng, together with Dr Miranda Lou, Executive Vice President, and Mr Simon Wong, Vice President (Campus Development and Facilities), were delighted to exchange ideas and views with the alumni. Sincere gratitude was also expressed for their contributions to the University, in particular advising on campus development projects and supporting the University initiatives on various fronts. They look forward to seeing the group soon in upcoming anniversary events. The dinner was filled with smiling faces and pleasant conversations, and closed with special souvenirs presented by the President.
