Hostel life is a pivotal part of enriching students’ university lives. The Kowloon Tong Student Hostel is being built near Tat Hong Avenue to provide an additional 1,680 hostel places, as well as supporting amenities, including social, recreational, and dining facilities upon its completion in 2028.
Design Concept
Taking reference from the surrounding natural terrain, the Kowloon Tong Student Hostel is designed with a stepping profile to respect the environment. As a hostel for future leaders, each residential block will have a distinctive identity represented by different theme colours inspired by jewellery.
With a connecting bridge linking all the residential blocks, a courtyard is created between the blocks to provide an intimate yet open space for students to live, study, and enjoy. The four linear hostel blocks arranged in a radiating and fan-shaped configuration enable ample ventilation while providing a panoramic view of the hillside landscape. Stepped terraces, landscape decks, and roof gardens are in place to encourage social interaction and strengthen bonding among students.
To align with the University’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality, sustainable design features have been incorporated into the building to promote energy saving, as well as the health and well-being of all those who use the building. Careful considerations on daylight, ventilation, use of materials and comfort of space have been taken into account. The design provides a foundation for achieving BEAM Plus rating as well as meeting the latest environmental standards of the construction industry.
The Hostel is expected to be completed in 2028.
