Development of Rail Crack Monitoring System Using Fibre Optic Based Ultrasonic Guided Wave Detection Technology
The overall aim of this project, led by Prof. Ni Yi-Qing, was to develop an on-line rail crack monitoring system using fibre optic based Ultrasonic Guided Wave detection technology by manifesting rail tracks as natural waveguides and prototyping an interferometric fibre Bragg grating (FBG) interrogator, and to promote the applications of such devised system in ordinary railways, high-speed railways and freight railroads in Hong Kong, the mainland and overseas.
